It was September 11th this week. 

And while we all know what happened in 2001, this day has another meaning for me and my family. 

My 9-year-old brother, Jimmy, was kidnapped and murdered on September 11, 1995.  

His death destroyed my family…physically, mentally, financially and spiritually. 

Many people have asked me how I went on to do all the things I’ve accomplished since then. 

My path to healing started in the gym.  

In fact, I became a personal trainer because of what happened to him. 

I found that helping others with their health helped me have purpose. 

It gave me hope of finding happiness again.

This is why I’m so passionate about helping others with their health.  

This is why, after 25 years of coaching, I’m still excited to do it every day.  

I pray that you’ll never have to lose a family member the way we did. But the reality is that you will go through hard times. And I believe that bouncing back from hardship starts by building your body.  

Keep this in mind when you say you don’t have time to exercise and eat right. Building strength, muscle and endurance isn’t just about looks or sports performance.  

It’s about being mentally and physically prepared for the challenges life will throw your way.  

It’s about becoming the strongest version of yourself so you don’t break when you’re put under stress. 

And life WILL put you through tests. 

Maybe you’ve already been through some.  

That’s why you MUST make health a priority.  

Everything you love and love to do rests on the foundation of your health… 

Want to travel the world? 

Want to play with your grandkids? 

Want to keeping growing your business? 

Want to continue to cloth and bath yourself? 

No matter your goal, you need to be healthy enough to do it. 

 

 

Here is your Unstoppable After 40 Friday Digest:

 

1. You’re not old, you’re just missing this.

I remember when I was in my 20s working as a personal trainer in the gym.   

The older guys would tell me how my body would start falling apart in my 30s.   

But now I’m 47 and I can confirm this was B.S.   

Lose your belly, lift weights every week, and do cardio until you can walk up 10 flights of stairs without feeling like you’re going to have a heart attack. And you’ll be healthy for decades!  

Yes, age isn’t just a number.  

And certain processes cause our body to increase inflammation.   

However, you have more control than you realize.   

But you have to take the right actions consistently!

 

 

2. Is intermittent fasting really the secret for better health?

Intermittent fasting (IF) can help you lose fat and improvement your health in powerful ways.  

But is it any different than just restricting calories with other methods? 

That’s the question that a 2024 review of 30 studies published in the journal Nutrients sought to answer. 

The results? 

“Overall, IF and CR were equivalently effective across cardiometabolic, cancer, and neurocognitive outcomes.”  

This conclusion is in line with many other studies. 

It’s the fat loss (not the fasting) that makes people healthier.  

I used to do IF but stopped because the hunger was distracting me. 

So if it works for you, then do it.

But know that intermittent fasting is just a tactic to restrict calories and there are many ways to make this happen. 

Some of my clients skip meals. Others don’t.  

But they all get results! 

 

 

3. A simple exercise for elbow pain relief

Got achy elbows from your workouts?  

Swap out those dumbbells for a smoother option— cable curls!  

After years of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I’ve learned that the gentle resistance of cable machines can be a game-changer, especially if traditional curls leave you sore. 

✔️Sets: 2-4  

✔️Reps: 6-15
