2024 is coming to a close…
There are less than 5 weeks left, and I’m fired up about what’s in store for 2025!
Which brings us to today’s topic.
Have you ever wondered why you struggle with motivation to get in shape?
But for some reason when it’s the end of the year or a milestone birthday, you find yourself motivated?
That’s no coincidence.
These moments are called temporal landmarks—special dates or milestones, like the start of a new year, that signal a fresh start. They create a mental “clean slate,” which helps us break from our past behaviors and feel more driven to make changes.
Temporal landmarks give us a surge of motivation. They make it feel easier to take action.
But here’s the catch: motivation is fleeting.
It’s a wave you can ride, but it doesn’t last. If you don’t use it to start building habits, you may find yourself back to square one, waiting for that next “right moment”—whether it’s another year passing or another birthday sneaking up on you.
Imagine starting 2025 with real momentum, having turned that end-of-year motivation into a set of habits that actually stick.
Imagine that in six months, you’re feeling and performing at your best because you didn’t let the moment pass. This is where most people slip up; they wait for motivation, miss their opportunity, and repeat the cycle for another year.
This year, let’s break that pattern of procrastination.
Don’t wait for 2026 to finally get your health handled—let’s make 2025 the year you turn your dreams into reality!
P.S. I’m recording a podcast about this soon so stay tuned!

The truth about exercise recovery over 40
I remember a guy in the gym telling me: “Wait until you hit your 50s! You won’t recover as fast!”
But is this true?
A recent study looked at how age affects recovery from eccentric exercises (exercises where the lowering portion is emphasized) in athletes. Researchers found that both younger and older (master) athletes showed a similar overall inflammatory response, despite small differences in recovery speed.
This suggests that, with consistent training, our bodies adapt to handle exercise stress, even as we age.
So, while recovery might feel a bit slower, regular training builds resilience, keeping recovery times manageable—even into our 50s and beyond.
But keep in mind that if you’re sleeping poorly, drinking frequently, and are chronically stressed, it may not be your age at all—it’s the lifestyle changes that are playing a bigger role.
So, stop blaming your age!
