Have you ever wondered how Richard Branson is 74 years old and more fit and active than most 55 year olds you know?
It’s no fluke—it’s all about strategy.
How has he been able to do that?
In his words, he says:
“I seriously doubt that I would have been as successful in my career (and happy in my personal life) if I hadn’t always placed importance on my health and fitness. I’ve always believed that the fitter you are and the more time you find to look after yourself, the more time you’ll have for everyone else.”

When to Prioritize Cardio Over Weightlifting in Your Fitness Plan?
I received this question recently…and it’s such a great one.
If you’ve followed me long enough, you know that I push lifting weights as the best method of exercise for fat loss. And with good reason.
Multiple studies have shown that resistance training maintains (or even builds muscle) while you’re losing fat.
Cardio is great for health. But it’s a poor choice for fat loss because it doesn’t build any muscle and may not be a strong enough stimulus to maintain it.
In other words, you’re at a higher risk of losing muscle if you only rely on cardio while on a fat loss diet.
However, there are times when prioritizing cardio is warranted. For example, when a client is super stressed.
In this case I’ll back off lifting and focus on cardio until they start to feel better. This is because cardio can lower stress levels faster than lifting (for reasons I won’t go into) and can quickly help someone improve their mood and reduce their stress.
If you want a deep dive into this subject and hear how I use cardio with my clients (and myself) then check out my podcast where I share my coaching experience:
My Go-To Supplement For Stress & Sleep
If you exercise regularly, are under a lot of stress or having sleepless nights, I recommend taking an oral magnesium as one of your go-to supplements.
It’s estimated that 75% of Americans are deficient in magnesium. And if you train hard or chronically stressed, your needs increase.
The truth is with age, your resilience to stress decreases, and sleep patterns may get disturbed.
My Pick
Natural Stacks Magtech. This is hands-down my favorite oral magnesium supplement. I’ve never had any GI upset from taking (this is common with mag supplements).
And it has a mixture of magnesium L-threonate, taurate and glycinate. L-threonate has been shown to pass the blood brain barrier and directly affect brain levels of magnesium in animal studies. Definitely worth giving a try to see if you notice a difference.

Dead Hangs: Are They Good For Your Spine?
Bar hangs have been the rage on social media.
And it’s been heralded as an exercise that can heal hurt shoulders and injured backs.
While it’s a great exercise, the conversation around bar hangs lacks nuance.
It can be a great choice for you. Or it can injure you.
In this video, I talk about how to do them and why (or why not) adding them into your program is a good idea.

Client Highlight: Rich R.
Meet Rich, a 51-year-old father and entrepreneur, trapped in a 25-year cycle of yo-yo dieting and fitness frustration.
Sounds familiar?
Despite his business success, Rich’s health took a backseat leaving him feeling like a personal failure.
On top of that, he had a long-term vision of what he wanted his life to be like:
“I want to be the guy in his 60s and 70s that is still working out, hiking, and enjoying his life. I don’t want to be like my friends that are visiting the doctor every week for a different health issue.”
In 6 months, Rich:
- Lost 29lbs of fat and waved goodbye to his belly
- Ended the 25-year cycle of hopping from one diet to another
- Feels more confident in the boardroom and the bedroom

Question of the Week:
Take whatever you are trying to accomplish and ask, “How could this be as easy as possible?”
How could I make exercise each day as easy possible? How could I make showing appreciation to my partner as easy as possible? How could I make finding great investment opportunities as easy as possible? And so on.
You may be surprised how effective the easy version can be.
Until next week,
