Welcome to Unstoppable After 40, my weekly newsletter where I reveal cutting-edge tips to get fit in your 40s & 50s while growing your business or career.
What’s in store for today:
- Take this supplement to control “inflammaging”.
- How you can hack your shoulder mobility for better movement.
- How to build bigger biceps without elbow pain.
Today’s issue is brought to you by Unstoppable After 40 Coaching Program. We help entrepreneurs, executives, and business owners to get fit in their 40s & 50s while growing their businesses and enjoying their lifestyles. (In less than 2 hours per week) .
My assistant coach Jeff asked me:
“Why do you think high-performing professionals get out of shape? It’s weird, right?”
He was observing how the clients we serve- executives, entrepreneurs, lawyers, consultants, doctors, etc.- were super successful in their areas of expertise but not in their health.
I love questions like this…
So, I started answering!
And it really came down to 3 things:
- Habits
- Mindset
- Environment
If you’re in the habit of skipping the gym, eating too much food, and drinking too much alcohol, it’s tough to change.
If you’re of the mindset of searching for a quick fix (like keto diet, intermittent fasting, carnivore, 75 hard, etc.) then you’re going to think getting in shape is impossible because you can’t keep it up.
If you keep a house full of high-calorie food and have to drive 30 minutes both ways to the gym, it’s going to take more work and motivation to be on top of your habits.
Once you start realizing that that having success with your body and health goes way beyond diets and workouts, then you’ll start to solve the root cause of why you’re not where you want to be.
Here is your Unstoppable After 40 Friday Digest:
1. The best weight lifting advice for men over 40 with injuries.
Should you avoid lifting weights if you’re over 40 to reduce the risk of injuring yourself?
That’s what someone asked me recently.
It’s a good question.
Why?
Research has consistently shown that regular moderate weightlifting actually strengthens the muscles, tendons, and even the bones themselves.
But you do risk injuring yourself.
Is lifting worth the risk?
That’s exactly what I get into in this Ask Ted episode.
So, if you’re over 40 and you’ve had this concern about lifting weights and injuries, you’re going to want to listen to this episode:

2. Take this supplement to control “inflammaging”.
One of the biggest issues with aging is increasing levels of inflammation.
Scientists even have a term for it:
“Inflammaging.”
It’s defined as an age-related increase in the levels of pro-inflammatory markers in blood and tissues.
Fortunately, there are things we can do:
• Lose fat • Regular exercise • Quality sleep • Stress management
That said, a 2022 meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that taking a daily curcumin supplement significantly decreased CRP (a marker of inflammation) after 10 weeks.
This is a great example of how the right supplement can support better health if you’re already doing many of the right things.
3. How you can hack your shoulder mobility for better movement.
I first saw someone do this exercise when I was 20 years old.
Decades later, it’s still a go-to for a solid shoulder warm-up or a mobility boost on rest days.
- 1 set of 10-20 reps
- Ideal before workouts or on your off days.
