I’ve got a real story that’ll hit home as we dive into gratitude this season.
Confession time: I’ve been caught up in the relentless pursuit of constantly looking to improve and level up and it’s easy to lose sight of being thankful.
However, I did a gratitude exercise two weeks ago at a retreat in Jamaica that finally made an impact.
My coach took me and the other 7 fitness entrepreneurs through a goal-setting exercise. Now, if you’re a high-achiever like me, you’ve probably done your fair share of writing your goals down. But this was different.
We started off by writing down the answers to questions like these:
- How have I grown in the last 3 years?
- What are the biggest things I’ve learned in the last 12 months?
- What are your top 10 accomplishments in the last year?
By answering questions like these, we’re focusing on what legendary coach Dan Sullivan calls “the gain” versus “the gap.”
The gap is when you live your life and determine your goals by someone or something outside of yourself. The gain means living life and measuring success on your own terms. It’s looking backwards and seeing how far you’ve come. When we focus on what we’ve gained, it reminds us that our hard work hasn’t been in vain. It’s paid off. But we often don’t take the time to reflect on our progress.
So, take a moment a moment to answer those above questions if you’re like me and find yourself living in the gap too often.
It’s a game-changer!
Here is your Unstoppable After 40 Friday Digest:
1. Are Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro the cure for weight loss?
If you’ve been paying attention to these drugs, you may have some questions.
With the number one being:
“Are these drugs the cure to obesity?”
If you’re curious about my take, my answer is… No.
My view can be summed up in a quote from former podcast guest and author of Indistractable: “Pills don’t teach skills.”
In short, you’ll still need to upgrade your knowledge and skills even if you lose a bunch of weight from taking one of these new drugs. And the drugs don’t work equally as well for everyone. For example, some patients in this New England Journal of Medicine study only lost 5% of body weight while others lost up to 30%. That said, I think some folks will need to take it. I’ve even recommended it to two former clients who only lost 20-30 lbs with me (but didn’t stay in the program long enough to achieve their weight loss goal: 100lbs).
Also, these are new drugs and we’re just beginning to see how this plays out. I will tell you this…
We’re 5-10 years away from someone making a Netflix documentary called “OzemSick” hahaha.
2. Stop hitting the pause-button on your fitness.
The holiday season doesn’t have to mean putting your fitness on freeze.
Forget the all-or-nothing attitude; it’s time for an “always something” strategy.
Here’s the real talk: You don’t need that perfect gym setup to stay fit. Your fitness plan should be as adaptable as your business plan.
Whether it’s squeezing in a rapid 10-minute bodyweight routine in your room, or having a protein shake before that big meal to curb the indulgence — embrace the flexibility.
This season, let’s vow to be as versatile in our fitness as we are in our businesses. No guilt, just smart, flexible choices to keep us on track. Remember, a little adjustment goes a long way.

3. How to keep knee pain out of your life.
Are suffering from achy or sore knees?
Then try my go-to exercise for knee rehab: Ball Terminal Knee Extensions.
Why it’s a game-changer?
Strengthens quads without stressing the knee joint.
Employs “overcoming isometrics” for serious strength gains.
Here’s how to do it:
- Place an exercise ball behind your knee (a large one works if you don’t have a small one).
- Position your heel a few inches off the ground.
- Firmly press the back of your knee into the ball as hard as you can. Hold for 10 seconds. Relax for a second.
- Repeat for 10-15 reps.
- Switch legs and repeat the process.
Pro Tip: Increase the duration of the hold as you progress.
Legendary Life Coaching Client Highlight: Rich Rivers
Sounds familiar?
Despite his business success, Rich’s health took a backseat leaving him feeling like a personal failure.
On top of that, he had a long-term vision of what he wanted his life to be like:
“I want to be the guy in his 60s and 70s who is still working out, hiking, and enjoying his life. I don’t want to be like my friends who are visiting the doctor every week for a different health issue.”
In 6 months, Rich:
- Lost 29lbs of fat and waved goodbye to his belly
- Ended the 25-year cycle of hopping from one diet to another
- Feels more confident in the boardroom and the bedroom
- Became a role model for his kids
- Feels ready to live the best decades of his life
