I’m launching a new “2024 Unstoppable After 40 Case Study” group for just 10 people. If you want to be the first to be notified…
My Jiujitsu professor in Lisbon told me:
“You know why I like teaching you? You will drill the same technique over and over again without complaining. Most guys will do a move 2-3 times and want to move on.”
I took that as a big compliment.
Do you know why?
Look at any high-level athlete or world-class performer and you’ll consistently find one trait in common:
They’re relentless at drilling the basics.
This also goes with getting your body into great shape after 40 years old.
It’s not about chasing quick fixes or the latest fitness fads.
It’s about steadfast commitment to the fundamentals of body transformation: monitoring total calories, ensuring adequate protein intake, keeping track of daily steps, consistently progressing in weekly workouts, prioritizing sleep and recovery, and managing stress effectively.
Your daily habits will determine if you achieve the health and body of your dreams or end up in the yo-yo trap that 90% of people stay stuck in.
If you want world-class results, you’ll need to be consistent with the basics.
The faster you accept this, the faster you’ll achieve the results you want.
Here is your Unstoppable After 40 Friday Digest:
1. Here’s why you gain weight after marriage (and it’s not what you think)!
In a fascinating 2013 study, researchers discovered a counterintuitive truth:
happily married individuals often gain weight.
This defies the usual narrative that weight gain post-marriage indicates unhappiness.
Instead, it reflects a comforting ease in the relationship, reducing the urgency to maintain an ‘ideal’ physique for the dating scene.
This insight carries two crucial messages:
- The narrative about gaining weight after getting married means that you must be unhappy and eating your feelings is false. It’s the opposite. You’re happy but perhaps have gotten a little too comfortable.
- Only taking care of yourself when you need a new partner is an unhealthy mindset.
My advice?
Don’t wait for your relationship to get rocky to take care of your health.
I’ve had numerous women share with me that they avoid having sex with their husband because they don’t feel confident about their body.
Don’t fall into this trap.
I believe that I owe it to my partner and to my (future) children to be the healthiest version of myself.
And lastly, never stop dating your partner!
2. My secret weapon training for people with joint issues or recovering injuries.
Do you have sore shoulders from being hunched over your computer for too many hours a day?
Let’s fix that! Try this shoulder exercise.
It’ll take you less than 2-minutes and you can do it right at your desk. How many reps? Try 10-20 in each position. How many sets? Do a set 1-3 times a day. Ready to relieve that pain?

3. How to master the health and fitness game in 2024.
We overestimate what we can do in three months. But underestimate what we can do in twelve.
So many of us fall into this trap of setting these huge unattainable goals for the new year.
Then we (understandably) don’t hit the mark. (And beat ourselves up for never accomplishing what we set out to do.) So what’s the answer?
Habits. If your goal is to lose 30 lbs as an outcome, ask yourself: “What daily or weekly habits will get me there?”
Here are some examples:
• I will get 7000 steps in every day in 2024
• I will track my nutrition 7 days/week in 2024
• I will hit 3 workouts (of at least 20 minutes) per week in 2024
You want a daily or weekly goal that you can measure. Because “Losing 30 lbs” isn’t that actionable. Or you can achieve it with unsustainable approaches.
Instead, figure out some specific, measureable, and ACTIONABLE goals that you can use to build habits. This makes hitting your 30lb goal just a matter of time.
