Are Organic Eggs Really Better For You?

The other day I posted an article called “Why I Eat Eggs Every Day But I’m Not Worried About the Egg Recall.” If you haven’t read that yet, you should. Click here to read it now. In that post, I commented about how my organic, free-range eggs were not on the recall list. I also stated that one of the reasons was the way the chickens that lay the eggs are handled.

It’s interesting to me that it seems to be common knowledge that if we exercise and eat right, we will be healthier. People may argue about the details of how to exercise or what exactly to eat, but nobody will argue that eating right and exercising will improve your health.

Yet people don’t seem to grasp the fact that animals are in the same boat. If they are not fed properly and allowed to exercise, they will not be healthy. All animals have specific diets that they follow while  in their natural habitats.

Chickens eat worms, grubs, insects and other similar things; not the corn and soy feed that they get in factory farms. The feed that they get in the lots is like a human eating junk-food or those nasty “meal” replacement shakes. Not too good for you.

The low-quality food combined with cramped, unclean living conditions in many factory farms make the chances of getting sick more probable. To address this issue, factory farms give the chickens anti-biotics. There is a lot of speculation that the anti-biotics given to animals in farms is one of the reasons that we are dealing with so called super-bugs like MRSA. I’ve been in the emergency room for an out-of-control staph infection before. It wasn’t fun.

If you’ve gotten this far in my article, you’re probably thinking that I’m a card-carrying member of PETA and that I wear black pajamas while illegally breaking animals out of research facilities. I’m not.

What I am is concerned about my health. I’m concerned about the obesity, diabetes, cancer, and many other degenerative diseases in this country. I’ll even admit that I’m not 100% sure that what I mentioned above is even part of the problem. I will say that there’s mounting evidence that it is.

To finish up, I want to leave you with a news video clip reporting on a study that was done comparing organic, pastured eggs to conventionally produced eggs. Check it out:

  1. Whats up this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  2. […] Also of note is that organic eggs may be more beneficial to you over conventionally farmed eggs. Check out my article on “Are Organic Eggs Really Better For You?” […]
