Here’s what I mean…

I spent the last six months in Brazil. There was a cookie place next door to my condominium with great coffee. So, I worked from this cookie shop (which only took 2 minutes to walk to) and constantly fought the urge not to eat one of the delicious freshly-baked cookies.

Imagine doing your best to stay on track with your nutrition but smelling freshly baked cookies while trying to get work done. It was a struggle haha. Fast forward to today.

I’m writing this post from a coffee shop in Lisbon, Portugal. While the cappuccinos are excellent, the pastries here aren’t that great. And I had to walk 15 minutes to get here..

In fact, I’ve found myself walking nearly triple the steps I was getting in Brazil.

Am I using willpower?

Am I being disciplined?

Am I having to force myself?

No. I’m in a different environment, and these changes are happening in response to my new situation.

I’ve actually lost a couple of pounds of fat in the past few days because of the change in diet and the significant increase in steps. That’s why you lose weight so quickly when you go to Europe. But then you put it back on when you return to the States.

So, what’s the lesson here?

Well, move to Europe! Just kidding…

The lesson is to focus less on being disciplined and working hard. Instead, consider adjusting your environment to make health a natural part of your routine.

For example, one of my rockstar clients, Dave, recently got an under-desk treadmill to use during meetings.

As a result, he’s increased his daily step count without forcing himself to go on walks or get to the gym to do cardio.

This is what success looks like.

So if you’re finding yourself working too hard to get results from your routine, look for ways to adjust your environment to make healthy habits effortless.

1. How To Improve VO2 Max: The Only Protocol You Need

As an executive or entrepreneur over 40, I know you’re all about peak performance.

My key to unlocking superior fitness and productivity?

It is elevating your VO2 max.

This metric measures your cardiovascular health, essential for longevity and vitality.

A higher VO2 max means you can perform activities faster and with less effort, giving you that edge you need in your busy life.

Research shows that increasing your VO2 max by just one unit can extend your life expectancy by 45 days.

Now, that you know that you need to increase your VO2 max to become fitter, live longer, and have a better quality of life, let me introduce you to my favorite method: the Norwegian 4×4 protocol.

It’s a game-changer that I’ve successfully used with my clients and myself.

Ready to get started?

  • Start with 4 minutes of intense effort at 85%-95% of your max heart rate (yes, it should feel BRUTAL)
  • Followed by 3 minutes of lower intensity, similar to zone 1.
  • Repeat this cycle 4 times

2. My Secret Weapon For Fat Loss

A 2020 study published in the journal Nutrients found that a higher-protein diet results in more fat loss and increased muscle growth compared to lower protein intakes.

This is why one of the principles I teach my clients is to focus on eating more protein.

And when I say protein, I don’t mean eating more beef or eggs.

I mean measuring the grams of protein you get daily.

Does that sound extreme to you?

Well, if you’ve ever followed a recipe, you know that the ratio of ingredients in super important. For example, if you bake a cake and use double the amount of flour, it’s going to change the end result in a big way.

Transforming your body is the same.

I’ve figured out the recipe to create a dramatic fat loss with clients. And part of this recipe is dialing in the right amount of protein.

 

 

3. The Best Way To Improve Your Deadlift Strength

Here’s your quick-hit workout boost!

Swap your regular deadlifts for the Kickstand Deadlift — a game-changer for those tight on time but aiming for maximum impact.

Why it’s great:

  • Staggered stance for stability
  • Allows heavier lifts thanks to better balance

Targets more muscle groups than standard deadlifts:

  • Sets: 2-5
  • Reps: 6-15
